Foundations / Forms / Futures
Building Islam in Detroit: Foundations, Forms, Futures is a multi-media exhibition designed to present our research to public audiences. It opened in 2005 at the University of Michigan’s Duderstadt Gallery and was also displayed in the Law School at Michigan State University in 2006.
The exhibit was redesigned and updated in 2007 and travelled to cultural centers and universities in Ethiopia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, and Jordan. In 2008 the exhibition returned to the United States, where it has shown at several locations in Michigan (see photos at left).
Building Islam in Detroit: Foundations, Forms, Futures consists of 20 (5’ X 5’) cloth panels and a video installation featuring interviews with the leaders and founders of several Detroit mosques.
